IT Asset Management Specialist I
Job Description
Blackstone Talent Group, an award-winning technology consulting and talent agency is seeking a IT Asset Management Specialist I to join our Client's team.
Position summary
The IT Asset Management (ITAM) Analyst contractor will provide hands‑on operational support to manage the end‑to‑end lifecycle of the organization’s IT assets (hardware, software, and cloud). This role is critical to improving inventory accuracy, strengthening audit readiness, and identifying cost-saving opportunities while offloading transactional work from senior IT staff so they can focus on strategic initiatives.
Key responsibilities
IT asset lifecycle management
- Maintain an accurate, centralized inventory of all IT assets (endpoints, peripherals, software).
- Ensure assets are properly tagged and associated with their owners, locations, cost centers, and lifecycle status.
- Process asset lifecycle events (request, procurement, receipt, deployment, moves/changes, returns, and disposal) in ITAM/ITSM tools.
- Support hardware refresh, replacement, and disposal programs, ensuring compliance with data‑wipe and environmental policies.
Software, license, and contract support
- Track software license entitlements, allocations, and usage against deployments.
- Identify under‑utilized, unused, or over‑allocated licenses and propose reclamation or optimization actions.
- Prepare data and summaries to support renewals, true‑ups, and vendor negotiations.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Finance, and Security on new software onboarding and standardization efforts.
IT asset audits and compliance
- Plan and support periodic IT asset assessments and audits (hardware, software, and cloud).
- Reconcile inventory records with purchase data, system discovery data, and physical checks to identify gaps or inconsistencies.
- Conduct targeted physical inventory and logical (tool‑based) audits for key locations and asset classes.
- Support software license compliance reviews and responses to internal or external/vendor audits.
- Document audit findings, track remediation activities, and help improve controls and processes to prevent recurrence.
Operational support and reporting
- Work IT asset–related tickets (new hire kits, swaps, returns, access and software requests) while enforcing ITAM standards.
- Partner with the service desk and endpoint teams to ensure asset workflows are efficient and well‑documented.
- Produce regular reports and dashboards on inventory accuracy, asset utilization, compliance status, and savings opportunities.
- Maintain and improve ITAM process documentation, SOPs, and knowledge articles.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of experience in IT Asset Management, IT Operations, or closely related roles.
- Hands‑on experience with ITAM/ITSM tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira Service Management, Ivanti, Flexera, or similar).
- Solid understanding of IT hardware and software lifecycle processes (request to retire).
- Familiarity with software licensing concepts (per‑device, per‑user, subscription, SaaS).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail; able to reconcile data from multiple systems.
- Experience working with cross‑functional stakeholders (IT, Finance, Security, Procurement).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience supporting IT asset or software license audits.
- Exposure to endpoint management or discovery tools (e.g., Intune, Jamf, SCCM, Tanium, etc.).
- Experience in a mid‑to‑large enterprise environment.
- Knowledge of ITIL/ITSM and ITAM best practices; relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CSAM/CAMP/CITAM) are a plus.
Key competencies
- Detail‑oriented: Ensures data accuracy and consistency across tools and reports.
- Ownership mindset: Proactively identifies issues and follows through to resolution.
- Collaboration: Works effectively with technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Problem‑solving: Uses data to uncover root causes and propose practical improvements.
- Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast‑changing environment with evolving priorities.
